He attended high school in Pretoria at Affies and completed his studies at the University of Pretoria, he concluded his practical legal training as article clerk at one of the most prestigious and historical law firms bases in Gauteng - Dyson Incorporated, Pretoria. Gerrit also obtained a Diploma in Estate Planning and Taxes from UNISA. He obtained vast experience in the financial sector having worded for two of the Republic''''''''s largest financial service providers.
